Take Charge of Your Life

For the most part, your destiny is in your hands. Whether you want to fulfill your New Year's Resolutions, start an exercise program, improve your relationships, or build a business, your success or failure depends on the thoughts you think, the choices you make and the actions you take.

Some people let themselves be pushed and pulled off the path to what they want. These forces may be everyday stress, someone who has a competing agenda, or trying to please others, but they don't stay on track. Sometimes it seems as though events are pushing too fast to take stock. But unless they stop and make a plan, they'll never be able to have what they want.

You, and only you, are in charge of your choices and decisions, as well as of how you respond to circumstances and other people. When other people and their drama try to drag you along with them, you have to stay aware and keep your intentions in front of you. When you do, you'll be able to respond in a more conscious fashion to those situations.

But to do that, you have to know what direction you want to go. Also, you have to provide the commitment and determination to follow it through. All of that is in your hands. You have a responsibility to your inner self to stand up for what you want.

To take charge of your life and your success, you'll need to make some decisions. These will guide you in your daily life, helping you to live more intentionally.

1. Find Clarity
Many people don't know what they want. They think they do, but it never feels right or isn't compelling enough for them to move towards it. The reason is that they're actually being influenced by what others want, what they think they should want, and/or what past people wanted them to want. Unless you can figure out what you truly want, you won't put any energy towards achieving it.

Decide on what you would be willing to spend your time and energy achieving.

2. Focus on Your Direction
Only you are in charge of your thoughts. Take hold of the reins to control where you want to go. It takes persistence, but you can do it. Your focus determines your decisions which prompt your actions and affects how people respond to you. When you decide where your focus is, you'll automatically start taking steps in that direction.

Decide what direction you want to go and keep it in front of you at all times.

3. Prioritize Your Actions
Whatever you act on you make a priority for that moment. It could be washing the dishes or taking out the trash, when you really want to be painting or balancing your checkbook. Your actions show you what you've decided is most important. And many times, it's not what will take you towards your objective.

Decide on your priorities and schedule them into your day.

4. Develop Self-Confidence
Self-confidence is a combination of feeling capable and self-esteem. You build a sense of capability by stretching yourself and succeed at unfamiliar tasks. By learning to believe in your ability to meet a challenge, you grow your self-confidence. To increase your self-esteem, give yourself permission to be happy and approve of what you want.

Decide to stretch yourself beyond your comfort zone.

By starting to manage your mind and your time, you'll make giant strides towards creating the life you want. Your fate is in your hands. It's up to you to take charge of it.
